Thomas Balch letter, 1874.

This collection consists of a letter written by Thomas Balch to Joel Munsell on January 31, 1874. In the letter, he mentions having received a copy of The Siege Of Savannah, by C.C. Jones and offers his assistance to the Georgia Historical Society. Balch also discusses his Les Francais en Amerique being published in Paris, along with the publication of Pennsylvania letters in 1855 (referred to as "Shippen papers"). Balch is preparing an article on the Franco-German war for an encyclopedia edited by President Barnard and Professor Guyot.

Thomas Balch (1821-1877) was born in Leesburg, Virginia. He was an American historian and author of The French in America during the War of Independence of the United States, 1777-1783.
